Nestled between the sea and the mountains, the Izu Peninsula emerges like a twinkling star in the Japanese tourist landscape. Its breathtaking landscapes, relaxing hot springs and rich culture attract an increasing number of visitors. In this bustling context, a new railway collaboration is redefining travel, making access to this gem easier and more attractive than ever. This partnership, combining innovation and tradition, paves the way for an unprecedented exploration of the wonders of Izu, while forging links between the different regions of Japan. The magic of this peninsula is within train reach, ready to seduce adventurers in search of discovery.
A Bold Initiative to Boost Tourism
Hi everyone, this is Magalie, your 29-year-old web developer, passionate about travel, tech and manga. Today I’m taking you on a thrilling rail ride that connects the Izu Peninsula, located south of Tokyo, has Taipei. The unprecedented collaboration between the private Izu Railway and the Taipei Metro is revolutionizing travel and boosting tourism in this magnificent region.
A Cosmopolitan Train for Authentic Destinations
I recently took the Izukyu Line on a Friday, and I have to say it was an experience in itself! The train was crowded, with around 70% foreign tourists. It’s quite breathtaking to see how this line which was mainly frequented by Europeans and Americans now welcomes visitors from various Asian countries. The travelers’ heavy luggage carefully stowed under the seats added a touch of cosmopolitanism to this trip.
The Ma Ji Train: An Immersive Visual Journey
To attract even more Asian tourists, Izukyu launched the Ma Ji train in May. Imagine a train decorated with Taiwanese landscapes, inside and out. This train offers a unique immersive visual experience, literally transporting its passengers into a cultural connection between Japan and Taiwan. It’s the kind of creative initiative that makes you want to travel!
Joint Promotion and Reinvented Tourist Sites
And that’s not all! A joint promotion has been implemented offering 30% off tickets for Izukyu Shimoda Ropeway and Taipei Maokong Gondola. This entices travelers to explore these two magnificent destinations. But it’s not just about transportation, local attractions likeAtagawa Onsen also benefited from this initiative. In Higashiizu, the lighting of red lanterns recalls the magical atmosphere of Jiufen, an emblematic place in Taiwan.
Special Tickets and Local Delights
Izukyu offered a special ticket for 3,980 yen (about $27), allowing unlimited travel for one day. As a bonus, the ticket includes a dining voucher redeemable at restaurants renowned for their fresh seafood. Perfect for food lovers like me! Another interesting new product is the Wizu Olive brand, introduced last February. You can now find olive oil, food products and even cosmetics in train station stores. The olive oil ice cream is very successful there, with around 1,500 cups sold between April and June.
Post-Pandemic Adaptations for Reinvented Tourism
The pandemic prompted Izukyu to adapt several of its stations into standalone facilities. A welcome center was even opened at a train station in April, offering work spaces, luggage storage and a gift shop. These improvements aim to provide a more comfortable and diverse customer experience.
A Winning Collaboration for Tourism
The collaboration between Izu Peninsula Railway and Taipei Metro is a brilliant initiative to attract international tourists. By highlighting local attractions, offering attractive promotional offers and introducing new products, this collaboration propels the Izu Peninsula to the status of a must-visit destination. With bold initiatives and constant adaptation to new trends, the Izu Peninsula is on the path to becoming one of Japan’s tourism gems.
