Hello everyone! This is Magalie, web developer and passionate about travel, tech and manga. Today I’m taking you on an incredible adventure thanks to a groundbreaking collaboration between Gametech And Tencent. They unveiled an immersive virtual tour of the brand new UNESCO World Heritage site.
Exploring the Central Axis of Beijing
This ambitious project invites us to discover the Central Axis of Beijing, an architectural marvel that stretches for approximately 7.8 kilometers. This emblematic site, witness to Chinese history since the 13th century, brings together impressive monuments such as the Forbidden City, the Bell and Drum Towers, Jingshan Hill and the Temple of Heaven.
Technology and Cultural Conservation
Using cutting-edge technologies such as high-definition scanning, 3D modeling and cloud computing, Tencent and Gametech have recreated the Central Axis with breathtaking precision. The sophisticated map mode covers a huge area of 200 km x 200 km and incorporates fascinating details, including 300,000 plants and 15 million buildings.
A Tour Guided By Digital Avatars
Thanks to the application Digital Central Axis Weixin, available on smartphone, you can explore this historic site at your own pace, guided by digital avatars. Set out to discover every nook and cranny of this virtual monument, including areas damaged or missing in reality.
The Digital Watchman Mini-Program
In addition to this virtual immersion, Tencent launched the Digital Watchman project in December 2023. This participatory program allows visitors and residents to report signs of deterioration by scanning QR codes, taking photos and uploading inspection reports. An innovative initiative to involve the public in the active conservation of this cultural treasure.
